Australian Romney

This article contains information about an Australian Romney ram, Tintern Elmo 328 (T), that is currently in a semen collection centre for export to New Zealand. If anyone is interested in importing this semen to North America, please contact Gavin G Wall at gavin.wall@iinet.net.au .

Below are pictures of the Tintern Romney sheep, including one ram Tintern Elmo 328 (T). Tintern Elmo 328 (T) is currently in a semen collection centre for export to New Zealand. His yearling weight was 97.5kg. His total fleece weight was 10kg with an 8kg skirted fleece – that was 10 months growth. His fleece is very dense with well-defined crimp. Eminent Romney breeder and judge, Mr Hugh Taylor from the “Doughboy” stud in New Zealand has purchased semen for New Zealand. Hugh’s comments when judging at the recent Royal Melbourne Show: “There is no Romney Ram in NZ with wool of the quality of 328.” The race for big sheep has finished in NZ and Australia, focusing on muscling and wool quality as well as the normal desirable characteristic of structure and breed characteristics.
