American Romney Breeders Association Notes
By Scott Culver, District 4 Director
(Article from Banner)
I would like to thank everyone who participated in our 100 year celebration for the American Romney Breeders Association. This was held at the Oregon State Fair Aug. 23th thru Aug. 28th. We started off with 29 guests attending the meet and greet which was held at the Willamette Heritage Center Mission Mill on Thursday August 23rd. Following the meet and greet the Mill director took us on a tour of the woolen mill where wool blankets were produced for our troops during World War I. The ARBA banquet and meeting was held in the same location with 43 in attendance. John and Jean Kamenicky’s story of finding an ARBA trophy from 1926 which had been presented to William Riddell for best Romney Flock was a highlight of a fun filled evening.
On August 24th we held the District 4 Western Regional Centennial Romney show. The Romneys were the featured breed at the Oregon State Fair. We had 10 breeders represented in the White Romney show and 7 breeders represented in the Natural Colored Romney show. The Premier White Romney award went to the Kalina Barker Family and the Natural Colored Premier breeder went to the Culver Family Farm (Ashley Culver). We would like to express our thanks to the many sponsors who provided awards for these two shows and to President Ron Andress for presenting the awards.
On August 25th we held the District 4 Western Region Romney Youth Show. We had seven youth participating with 14 white and 19 natural colored Romneys in the various classes. Many thanks to Sue Kalina, Stephanie Barker and the wonderful sponsors that donated funds to give these kids many special prizes.
The Western Regional Centennial Romney Show was a great success as expressed by the numerous directors, officers and breeders in attendance with many highlights and lots of fun activities. Thanks to all of you for your help and participation and especially the members of the Oregon Romney Breeders Association.
