2013 ARBA National Show and Sale – Update
The 2013 ARBA Show and Sale will be separated into two different events held at different venues in the Midwest, in hopes that more members will be able to attend one or the other ( or hopefully, both!)
The National Romney Sale took place at the Great Lakes Fiber Show and Sale this past Memorial Day Weekend in Wooster, Ohio. With a total of 28 Romneys sold, Romney sheep were well represented by breeders from across the country. The average sale price for 13 white Romneys was $560 and 15 natural colored Romneys sold for an average price of $742. The highest selling animal was the natural colored reserve champion ewe sold by Julian & Moore Sheep Co. for $1700.
Both the buyers and breeders are walking away from this sale pleased with the outcome. The prices were where the breeders wanted them to be, while the buyers left with high quality breeding stock that are a valuable addition to all of their own flocks.
Overall, it was an excellent weekend for everyone. This was a great opportunity to put names and voices to faces and chat with new and old breeders alike. The sense of camaraderie was evident in the amount of teamwork there was to ensure the show and sale went well for everyone involved.
Thank you to everyone that consigned sheep to the sale, helping make it a success. Thank you to Ed and Helen Julian for having food and coffee available both mornings and organizing the breeder-buyer dinner on Saturday night. It was an enjoyable evening for everyone that attended.

The 2013 National Show will be held at the newly resurrected Michigan State Fair (known officially as the “Fifth-Third Bank Michigan State Fair”, since it is now a private event not sponsored by the state) in Novi, MI over Labor Day weekend (August 29 – Sept 2). This brand new facility features spacious pens and aisles, climate control and numerous excellent restaurants and hotels located nearby. The show will include open, youth and showmanship classes. The show committee is busy arranging the show schedule, judge, annual dinner and other events to make your trip worthwhile.
