May 2014 Sales Results
Two sales, with white and natural colored Romney entries, were held in May. The Maryland Sheep and Wool Festival included a sale this year, with 20% of the entries being Romneys. The sale average for white spring ewe lambs was $433 for six lots sold. Natural colored ewe lambs averaged $425, with one fall and one spring lamb entered for sale. A single entry in the yearling ewe division sold for $375. Total sales of natural colored Romneys was $1,225 for an average of $408.
The Romney Specialty Sale held during the Great Lakes Sale in Wooster, Ohio, found buyers for twenty seven Romneys. The average price for the seventeen white animals was $531, and the ten natural colored Romneys sold for an average price of $400. The overall average for the sale of 245 animals was $483.50, very close to the average for all Romney entries.
Both of these sales were managed by Banner Sale Management, and results of both can be reviewed in the Banner magazine and on the Banner website. Watch for some of the Romneys sold in these sales to be identified as futurity animals and shown by our junior members at upcoming youth and open shows.
